The Peni high school does not have a library. The Gouri Village Project has been working to provide a library and educational resource materials for the students. This will be a game changer, when implemented, as no such resource has ever existed in the area before. The library has been a constant demand of the students and their teachers. Approximately 1200 students attend the Peni high school. The school receives little help from the government and functions mainly with the support of the impoverished local community and occasional help from NGOs. The school has only 2 permanent structures. The remaining classrooms are made of simple huts which have to be replaced each year as they are destroyed during each rainy season.
Your generous donation will go toward achieving this goal. The funds collected will help build a library to include a reading room, a study area, resource materials, and cover training for 2 librarians. We have been able to collect a number of books through generous donations from friends (thank you Phivan and Eric Wright!). More books and resource materials are needed; also we need to complete the building to house the books and allow the students to use and expand their knowledge. As a background, the project has provided school supplies and teaching materials to the school in the past. Of main importance, we helped build an administration office for the school's administrative staff (headmaster, principal, etc.) and a teachers’ room to allow them to work and prepare lessons. Prior to this, the teachers used to gather in an open area under trees. We welcome all donations. Monetary donations can be made through this website. Please contact us at gourivillage@gmail.com for in-kind donations. Thank you! |
