Gouri is a small farming village in Southern Chad located mid way between the towns of Doba and Koumra (it is 2-hour drive from ExxonMobil’s Kome oil fields heading south). Gouri has an estimated  population of 2,000 people and is part of 25,000 people who live across a cluster of 26 villages which form the traditional ethnic group Goulay Penn of Peni (Mandoul).

The majority of the population practices subsistence farming, mainly using oxen and carts and traditional tools as farming means. Cash crops include cotton and peanuts. There are 2 seasons: Rainy season (April to September) and dry season (September to March). Farming takes place during the rainy season. Following harvest in October and November, no major activities occur during the dry season.
The Gouri Village Project is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization - Est. 2013.
